This autumn, I retraced the footsteps of the 17th c. haiku poet, Matsuo Basho, following the "Narrow Path to the Deep North" and seeking to photograph moments of contemplation, poetic scenes and quiet beauty. I asked myself what Basho would have seen in the present day and to what he would have been drawn as he traveled in modern Japan. The result is a new series of work that combines traditional settings with modern, everyday life and reality and these are a few images from this new series.
