Still/Moving

The work Still/Moving is a collaboration between Marianne Bjørnmyr and dance artist Silje Solheim Johnsen, together with dance artist Jenny Svensson. The work has been published as an exhibition where we witness the encounter between photography and dance in an experiment with choreography and presentation. The presented images are choreographed into a series of work where shape and size is changing the static still picture to a dynamic composition. The project is investigating on how a photographic exhibition can be perceived as dance art. Dance and photography might be seen as contradictive in relation to presentation, where the dance is characterized as art of the moment, while photography is seen as a perpetual expression. Where does the compromises between the two forms of art lie? Still/Moving has been creating through the choreography of photography, rather than the photography of choreography. In the encounter between the two forms of art something interesting occurs; the dance is loosing is quality as an art of the moment and the choreographed work has been moved from choreographing a moving body to choreographing static photographs. The choreographer gets the role of the curator.
