Final Steps
Project info

While photographing derelict signs on the fringes of private property, I soon started to notice a similar phenomenon in the many abandoned, disused cement and bluestone steps that were once used to connect homes with the roadway; often the houses are long gone, or abandoned themselves. These steps, left to the actions of the elements and overgrown by long grasses, weeds, vines, and brush present the breakdown of form and function as they are progressively effaced, dislodged and broken up by the erosive forces of nature and neglect. Fifty-three photographs were made from 2012 to 2013 comprising the series “Final Steps.”
