Xinaliq, Azerbaijan - Shifting Identity

Over 5000 years old, Xinaliq is one of the highest, most remote villages in Azerbaijan. Historically it has been extremely isolated due to it’s geographical location, the Greater Caucasus Mountains creating both a physical and cultural divide between Xinaliq, the rest of Azerbaijan and the outside world. A new road built in 2006 has allowed unprecedented access. The borders are now shifting.
