London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. London has a diverse range of people and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken in the region. Photograph do more than redefine the stuff of ordinary experience (people, things, events, whatever we see (Sontag, 1977, p.122) and it is an honour to record this event by image-making.
According to Sontag (1977, p.119), reality has always been interpreted through the reports given by images. There are many ways to describe making new friends, new environment, new places and new identities using photography, but by doing portraits of the people makes the process so much fun, enjoyable and brings us closer as friends.
As a student, it is essential to have their student identification card. It is a key to open doors, to use facilities in the library and it works as a debit card all at the same time. For me, it has been a great experience so far and I am looking forward to cruise along these three years of unexpected journey with friends while having fun.
The work consist of several advertising element to it. Props that were used for the photoshoot are from the photography studio and act as a symbolic message to connect their identities as photography students. The university lanyard is to present the university where they study. Their jackets and coats represent the weather which is currently cold. The face expression of happy, confident, blurry and proud are manifestations of their unexpected and unclear journey ahead of them. The appearances also indicate that they are students. As Barthes mentioned (1977, p.33), because in advertising the signification of the image is undoubtedly intentional; the signifieds of the advertising message are formed a prior by certain attributes of the product and these signifieds have to be transmitted as clearly as possible.
