New Mexico Deconstructed.

I began this body of work after moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico from Louisville, Kentucky in 2014. I was exploring photography as a creative outlet and was inspired by this new place. I enjoy the immediacy of photography and the images were a way to stop and study this landscape in more detail. So many artists have had the same experience and have painted or photographed New Mexico thousands of times, possibly in a similar effort to understand this mysterious and unknowable place. I wanted to add my own voice to the conversation and express my experience through the elemental aspects of light, color and shadow. The images are a way to make order in my new home, to make sense of it and find my place in it. My work is inspired by the color field painters of the abstract expressionist movement as well as the work of Lewis Baltz and Aaron Siskind.
