UNEARTHING TRAUMA PROJECT FORT IX

Based on the book 'The Truth and Nothing But the Truth: Jewish Resistance in Lithuania' by Alex Faitelson (1923-2010) and his own extensive family research, Burkhard on Harder decided to confront conflicted memory : under the participation and help of A. Faitelson, one of the last survivors of the historic escape from Fort IX, key moments of the escape could be re-enacted and photographed in 2005 on the original site to produce a composite panorama incorporating additional moments from the fort's long history connecting the past with the present. Between 2008-2019 a 3 x 12 meter long canvas had been installed in the courtyard of the Fort (unearthing-project.org).
