Artist Statement:
Reality and ideals are elements that govern people’s lives. When further consolidated by a majority or mass they have the potential to become the ultimate truth. Nevertheless, is the truth build upon a mass recognition of the majority? Photography’s characteristics shares similarity for it records reality, ideals and human’s knowledge of beauty. This series seek to challenge the understanding of the mass concept of beauty. Replenishing with my artistic ideals, which extracts Taiwanese nature as materials to create my works, I chose the most common flowers found in the region and provoke the meaning of the mass concept of beauty. The natural colors, shapes and sizes of the flowers are fixed to change them and present a different beauty was the incentive. Image-stitching, digital manipulation, industrialized fans and the help of local enthusiastic villagers aid the completion of this series. 14 ordinary breeds of flowers take on a new form. My hope is to evoke audiences to reevaluate perceptions and the way of viewing the world. Looking back in 2016 hardships was shared among the globe. The beauty recognized by the mass may signify the ultimate truth, nevertheless these flowers even though as if from a foreign planet blooms with its own beauty. Prejudice and standpoint are never forever correct or certain. Liberating these restrictions one can then find their personal floral serenity.
