The items you will see here are from the collection of Beverly Rayner’s Museum of Mesmerism & Psychic Art.
While researching her largely undocumented Polish ancestry, Rayner was told that her ancestors belonged to a mystical order of seers and conjurers. This revelation about her ancestral roots helped explain her lifelong fascination with the seemingly magical artifacts she had been collecting over the years.
She was also intrigued by stories of a mysterious building, said to be built by her ancestors, in the town of Bzinica Stara, Poland. The exploration of this building led to many secret chambers containing ritual objects, spell-casting materials, obscure artifacts, strange photographs and enigmatic scripts that defy all attempts at translation.
The items discovered in this building became the foundation of the permanent collection of the Museum. The collection has been expanded over the years to include Rayner’s large and diverse collection of psychic, mesmeric, hypnotic, trance, mystical, illusionist, alchemical and voodoo devices and artifacts, as well as spirit photographs and visionary artworks.
The Museum of Mesmerism and Psychic Art is open to visitors by special arrangement only. These images offer a rare opportunity to view a multitude of examples from the Museum’s collection.
