I call this series OIDE and it is an ongoing project united by the method of how I treat the photographs. All images are done using instant film and what you see in the final image is a mere fractional detail of the original frame.
OIDE is a Japanese word and expression and translates roughly into “come closer” - as in how a mother would call to her child when she wants to share something important or when she would want to keep her child in a safe and close proximity.
OIDE, when used as the title for this project, refers to my attempt to bring the viewer closer into the images and make them more intimate. These are not portrait of “famous” or public people but despite the abstract and blurry quality, the faces are still clearly recognizable to anybody who knows them. The portraits remain true to the original sheet of film, without any color alterations or digital manipulation.
