Mirrorless - senza specchio

These works are part of my book "Mirrorless", a visual journey in the drama of anorexia, which leads to obsession to control its own weight, significantly damaging the physical and mental health. Anorexia effects on the skin in recalling of the frantic search for love and acceptance. liked to be gentle while shooting my pictures, enter on tiptoe, silently into a dimension that demands great respect and not obsessions predatory, as Susan Sontag brilliantly reminded us in one of her major works. The images, we see here, are not "amazing" and they do not pretend to be so, otherwise it would transform the state of things as they actually exist into a form of show that would become an ephemeral "distraction" from our daily life. The photographic testimony is meant to represent a sort of guide for those who cannot see a way out, for those who are still far away from the consciousness and for those who have not yet the strength and courage to take new paths. The photographs were taken in Basilicata in a center for eating disorders. For six months I have monitored six patients. A long and difficult time but mandatory to get in touch with patients without hurting their feelings or betraying their trust.
