My Family

This is an unusually personal selection for me. Generally as a photographer I see my role as the outsider capturing moments for other families and for my clients. But recently my wife and I have been talking a lot about how our son may view his very disparate family. He's a second generation mixed child. My parents were Eastern European and African American and Xander will add Vietnamese to the mix and grow up bilingual. His mother's family is now as much a part of my life as mine and I wanted to submit the photos I've been fortunate enough to take of our ever broadening family. Today especially, with the current hatred running rampant through America, it's important to remember that family, and Americans, are so much more complex than angry rhetoric might imply. This is my family and I'm excited to see it continue to grow in complexity and diversity. I am a gypsy, an african american, and the proud father of a Vietnamese mixed son; and these are my family portraits.
