Westerwälder

Westerwälder - faces of a region The series "Westerwälder" portrays people who are firmly rooted in this typically German rural area. These are random acquaintances that I made during my project "WesterWorld - Mein Stück Heimat". Already for August Sander, the people of this region were fascinating, his peasant portraits from the Westerwald are the prelude to his famous encyclopaedic series "People of the 20th Century". Even today you meet unusual characters. The portraits show people who have to assert themselves in a tangle of contradictions between regional tradition, the intricate paths of German history, and the present increasingly marked by globalization.
