The series asks, can “the beauty of what you love, be what you do” exist in a world that that is increasingly indifferent and hostile to the arts?
In 2008 I began to document artists in New York. Some were friends, others were lovers and a few were work acquaintances. The joy and bewilderment of creativity and working in the arts has always been a topic of discussion for me. I decided to turn the discussion into a document by promising those I photographed and interviewed that I would return every ten years to see how the stories of their lives were shaping.
I document the lives of others because their struggles to succeed is mirrored in my exhaustive desire to find the art in my craft, to find a glimmer of soul. I wish to share the fragile strengths of these artists with a hope it will help give a glimpse of understanding to their lives and of artists everywhere.
