Re-velation

Re-velation addresses the delicate issue of manipulation of cultural differences, starting from the situation of immigrant Muslim women in Europe. The veil of Muslim women has been always object of discussion; just its plurality of meanings and evocative power made him an emblem of social, political, religious and cultural debates, often turning it into a “veil of discord”. From a formal point of view the compositions remind classic paintings, creating a symbolic contamination between Eastern and Western cultures: the images resemble Western portraits but the subjects wear Oriental veils/accessories. In Re-velation Carla Iacono doesn’t take a position about the veil, but digs into the history to" reveal " values and meanings with sincere and refined pictures, respecting the differences and similarities between cultures. And if this will stimulate the discussion with grace and passion, the goal will be reached.
