With my portrait work I am always interested in whats beneath the surface, the emotion that is not always shown. You catch glimpses of it whilst you engage with people but isn't always present to everyone. When I connect with a portrait it is often because I feel that it gives something away that the sitter does not present initially, it is often a hint of vulnerability. But this makes the work stronger, allowing for a greater connection with the person and ultimately a longer relationship with the photograph. Allowing the image to give back to viewer.
Even though I work both in landscape and portrait work I always feel that the emotion of an image can transcend the subject matter. My hope is that what you feel from the landscape can be viewed in a portrait, ultimately tying together my practice and the way that I work.
