I have spent a lot of time volunteering and shooting photography in the Southern part of Africa and Central America. I tend to spend time in a community before I even bring out the camera. I listen to the stories so when I do raise my camera I have a better understanding of how I want to take the picture. My volunteer work is with the adults but in my spare time I found myself surrounded by children. These exceptional little beings learned to trust me and allowed me to look them straight in the eyes with my lens and capture a little of who they were at that moment. It still surprises me how brilliant these children shone in amongst the chaos of poverty and death.
