While walking around in a gallery of a museum, I came upon a room of busts and sculptures. All the pieces in the room were over at least a century old and seemed to be quite lovely and pristine. However, a feeling of annoyance followed me in the gallery, as I could not get a clear perspective without the room or the lights being reflected back on the cube of Plexiglas that surrounded the object d’art.
This clear box functioned not only as a barrier between the artwork and viewer, but conversely, also as physical plane where past and present meet.
The game before me was clear upon this observation. The pleasure was to see how I can play with layers of space and time and to reinterpret another artists’ encounter.
The images from this series, Encounters, uses photography as a medium to explore the relationship of time and perspective as well as to challenge traditional concepts of portraiture.
