Portraits of refugees protesting at the sit-in at Rautatientori Square in Helsinki. Refugees are occupying the square 24/7, now for more then 27 days. This is due to tightenings of the Finnish refugee law approximately forcing 200-400 people to live in the streets. It is despite it is winter, there is snow and temperatures can drop below minus 18 at this time of the year. An increase of the amount of people ending up in the same situation is expected to reach 1.000-2.000 people within the months to come.
Refugees have no rights and Finland has also begun deporting refugees back to Iraq and Afghanistan against their will and with no agreement with the receiving governments. Many to face violence and potential death. Refugees in Finland is object to lack of human rights, no protection and a life in despair. Also a wave of suicides has begun among the refugees when being rejected by the Finish Migration System.
