Kirkpinar, Turkish Oil Wrestlers

In July 2016, six days after the coup attemt, I went to Turkey to photograph Kirkpinar, the annual oil wrestling tournament taking place in Edirne in the northern part of Turkey. It is the oldest tournament in the world going back 655 years. Men and their young apprentices travel from all over the country to participate in this mix of blood, sweat, tears and a lot of oil.
