Be Worth Imitating

Be Worth Imitating is a socially conscious photo series focused on inspiring young people to do more and be more.This is done by showcasing young men portraying one communities most influential African American men from sectors of community leadership, politics, and business. Children will emulate the images, attitudes, and the activities that are presented to them.This exhibit is designed to help counteract the internalized racism and low self esteem possessed by many African American youth. Often, young people are presented with negative media depictions of urban culture. These depictions can reinforce the dysfunctional habits and attitudes that accompany any community challenged by the ravages of poverty and historical discrimination. This exhibit displays a positive representation of what it means to be professional, successful, civically responsible, spiritually active, family-oriented . . . in short, worth imitating.
