Human Chameleon

Ordinarily, I avoid the studio in favor of making portraits of people I encounter in their daily environments, but once in a while I am so inspired by a model that I want to work with them over a period of time in the controlled setting of the studio. Such is the case with Laura. A remarkably creative individual, Laura dreams up countless personalities and brings each one to life in the studio. Like a human chameleon, she transforms herself into each character through designing and fashioning her own costumes, styling her own hair and makeup, and engaging the photographer in what could more accurately be called performance art rather than simple posing. In this series of images, I have attempted to capture the essence of several of Laura's characters.
