Usually a portrait of someone with half or completely closed eyes
apply to be failed. Only open eyes, directed to the viewer,
appear appropriate to the photographic portrait.
But photography makes visible, what our eyes can’t see:
The eyelid movement of a human being.
I have combined these two aspects in my work UNTITLED:
On the one hand the „classic“ portrait, strictly in black and white,
on the other hand the almost closed eyes who refuse
to the viewer. This not only produces a clear result irritation,
but the focus, which is usually directed to the eyes, also shifts to
the mouth of the person being photographed.
I break rules to make something visible. The tension and strange
magic between the inner and the outer view.
These series was created in 2017 and consist of 10 photographs
in the size of 59x42 cm.
