Interference

Interference investigates how humans impact the environment, exposing the intersections between humans and nature as their borders become visible on small and large scales. The images reveal borders where natural and built landscapes overlap, the shift from fractal to geometric, blurring the line between the natural and unnatural. The photographs, depicting among others the largest ski resort in the United States, the largest furniture retailer, as well as agricultural and suburban expansion, show how recreational activities, mass production and urban sprawl affect our surrounding natural landscape. The prevalence of globalized consumerism even in a rural landscape, while oftentimes seemingly unobtrusive, takes over the preexisting environment. Only when viewed from this distant perspective does the human impact on the natural landscape become strikingly apparent.
