Every 4th of June mass candlelight vigils are held in Victoria Park, Hong Kong, to commemorate the Tiananmen massacre. In 1989 Chinese armed soldiers attacked peaceful protesters killing a great number of people. The amount of students killed is still unknown.
Many of the demonstrators protesting on the streets of Hong Kong today were not born in 1989, but they have a deeper understanding of China's recent past than most of their contemporaries in the mainland.
They have grown up witnessing the mass candlelight vigils held every year. Something it has been silenced in communist China.
