Haenyeo are South Korean women that freedive to collect various shellfish. This job was traditionally passed down through generations from mother to daughter, but recent generations prefer the comforts of modern city life. The number of haenyeo declines each year. The haenyeo culture is disappearing.
Most haenyeo live on Korea's Jeju Island. I spent some time documenting the demanding work these women do with a group of haenyeo at Pyeoseon Harbor, Jeju, South Korea.
