Labour of Love

In an increasingly dislocated, secular world we don’t have too many tribal rituals any more, but weddings have remained a constant, even in a city like London. With all their passions, tensions, ancient rituals and idiosyncratic dress codes weddings are one of the few chances many of us have to peacock and perform, and they often come at a great investment, both financially and emotionally. This project documents at weddings in the capital over four years, across different communities, focusing not only on the differences in the cultures but also the overwhelming similarities, especially when it comes to the hierarchies of gender, age and social standing that they more often than not reveal.
