This photography project was born out of boredom. As a freelance photographer, I get job assignments from Airbnb.com to go and photograph listings in Tel Aviv. After shooting hundreds of apartments I realized that the only way I could keep doing that job was to also spend some time photographing the tenants in their space.
I look for an area in the apartment that has a meaning to me and ask the person to stay there, almost like another object in the room. They don't get to prepare themselves for the portrait (make-up, clothes) and I ask them to drop any facial expression they might want to have. I try less to show who they are, than simply what they look like in their own environment.
I would like to do the same project in other cities around the world. I believe it would then have a stronger documentary value.
