Willow Work: Figures

Willow Work is a series of photographs made with sunlight and serendipity from the bare branches of a corkscrew willow tree. Long exposures and a variety of intentional camera motions are used to form abstract images with interesting visual qualities. Selection then plays a big role. For this collection I selected images that, through a combination of happenstance, iteration, and motion refinement, achieved some degree of representation. Although they may not look much like photographs, each is a single exposure and few have been reworked in post-processing beyond the imposition or removal of colors, cropping, rotation, and curve adjustments. This project follows an ‘as found’ ethic. My goal is to present fanciful images that engage the viewer's attention long enough to evoke a flight of the imagination.
