Yiorgos Kordakis avoids the cliches that are invariably associated with the island of Santorini namely the sunset and the caldera that embraces the volcanic islands of Palaia and Nea Kameni. He eschews the impressions produced effortlessly by colour images but chooses instead the "black and white" in search of the essential, the archetype; the white Cycladic houses and the black volcanic terrain.
Architectural forms reminiscent of minimalist sculpture are predominant in his images . They are simple structures that defy complex geometry, and which according to Le Corbusier and the architectural manifesto, refer to Platonic solids. The aim of these images is not the recognition of the landscape but the idea that transforms the form into art compatible with man's sense of proportion.
