The Layered World
Modern agriculture occupies a large part of the landscape and the experience in the Midwest. My series of images in The Layered World explores where and how agriculture fits into a world composed of tightly interrelated layers. The animate layers, the inanimate layers, the transitional layers, and the indeterminate layers all have agricultural elements. Mutable and dynamic, every action, every decision sends out ripples thorough the layers, causing seen and unseen effects. In the modern world, the layers are pushed closer and closer together, making every action and reaction more evident. My images are the bits and pieces of modern agriculture found in the layers, often unseen and unseeable by those who consume the products of the farms.
