n Europe, after the america colonisation, since Louis XIV, the kings started to collect the exotic plants brought by the explorators. On the 19 century, somme greenhouses (Like the serres tropicales of le jardin des plantes in Paris) were opened to the public, to show what is a rainforest.
But these artificial rainforests are done like traditional occidental gardens and are not looking like the real ones.... Today Many people are thinking that a rainforest is like that in western countries.
But under the tropic, they are different, natural and often polluted or cultivated to keep this kind of images.
This serie is questioning the tropicalism in our modernity. They were produced at Hong Kong island and at Hong Kong achipelago.
Hong Kong is unique on the point that there is no transition in between urbanity and nature.
All the photos are produced with a Zeiss Icarex 35 with a Zeiss Tessar 50 mm 2.8 lens or Rolleï 35 lens Zeiss Tessar 3.5 40 mmm and also with a Rolleï XF 35 Lens Sonnar 2.3 40 mm; and a Kodak Tmax 400 film.
