Since 1392 I started to engage more with photography and by taking photography courses on various subjects and on different levels, I began to practice photography. It was about 2 years ago, that I realized I have what it takes to hold the camera as a photographer and to begin experiencing the rest of what I needed to learn. In my first personal experience, I had travelled to Duhok, a city in Iraqi Kurdistan which is autonomously governed by the KRG and which hosted Syrian Refugees who were dislocated because of the war. For an amateur-freelance photographer, there were existed many barriers however, I managed to receive a one day photography permission. Now after two years of reading, researching, and traveling to the four main countries related to the war in Syria and the displacing of people affected (Iraq, Turkey, Syria and Rojava) I decided to go back to the Domiz Camp and to receive a permission to photograph the camp and the society of people there, in order to diversify my photography. Instead of taking a photo as a record of a precise visual moment, I planed to make a photo; meaning, I wanted to create a photographic image.
However, the usual barriers that an amateur -freelance photographer faces held me back and unfortunately this time, Irans’ Government in addition to the Iraqi Kurdistan’s government implemented more restricting political strategies against my project and did not provide me with the opportunity to continue with my project. Not only they rejected my request for permission to photograph but also, with their political-security standpoint they made me uncomfortable in the city.Since a modern photography tool is available everywhere to us in this contemporary world ( for me, modern photography is the simplification of photography processes such as editing, printing and enhancing the photos on smart phones which have made photography an accessible tool) I started a new project. By buying a smart phone I tried to create a bridge between my personal problems and the professional challenges faced by photographers like myself. This collection, due to the geographical location of Refugee camps (Domiz, Arbat, etc) which happen to be in the Kurdish region of Iraq, is going to portray the lives of the Kurdish people and the cities of Duhok, Sulaymaniyah and Erbil. What is evident as followed by this project is the outcome of my last trip to Iraqi Kurdistan and is my first practice with smart phone photography
