Impermanence is an intimate exploration of family history. Combining past with present, Billie’s work examines the deterioration of memory in later life. The project begins with her Nanna’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and the mental and physical impact of this condition. Coming to terms with her emotions, Billie allows herself to be honest and begins a deeper exploration of the personal. Combining photographs of her Poppa in his home with the deteriorated family album, she braves notions of memory, grief and loss. The Dartmoor landscape becomes the site of the loneliness that accompanies this debilitating illness.
