These are a collection of portraits of my two older children which capture the day by day, ever changing intimacy we share.
I have focused on the aesthetic qualities of their freckles and their eyes, familiar generic childlike features. By getting in close and paring back what is in the frame I am guided directly to their gaze and as such can participate in these soulful and considered moments. However, although at times I find these stark and intimate portraits familiar, at other times they are unnerving and act as a reminder that my children are separate from me, with thoughts and feelings which belong to them and only them.
