Within the stages of grief is a certain bereavement reaction called Identification Phenomena - the adoption of traits, mannerisms, or symptoms of the lost person. While the artist has previously dealt with and has successfully come to terms with loss, death and grief, recently a new loss has presented itself. Since this loss is impending, the stages of grief seem mixed up.
The idea of using this state of mind is a way of managing this new type of grief, visualizing an implausible (but still possible) reaction, and possibly creating a smoother recovery time once the death occurs. While this concept explores the possibilities and ramifications of grief transforming into physical and behavioral manifestations of a lost loved one, the underlining theme is the process of gaining control of oneself through artistic means.
