Originally born of a long-time fascination with the weather, watching the movement of cloud and light on the mountains. This series focuses on the power of stormy times, whether just before, during or after the snow and rain. Watching the clouds envelope the mountain, waiting for the light to break through and feeling the tension in the air speaks to my own emotions, and it is when I am standing watching the weather that I feel the immensity of the world stretching before me. These closed, almost claustrophobic spaces took on new meaning as I began to read Naomi Klein’s “This changes everything”; they became spaces from which man has no escape. A metaphor for mankind’s response to impending climate change. We stand within the clouds, within the storm. The glimpses of the beauty beyond are haunting and fleeting. Once man has destroyed his habitable land, all that is left will be nature as a transcendent force. We are but a blip in the history of the world.
