Wherever you go, there you are

First location- the Soviet Union in the years 1940-1970, mostly Georgia . Second location- São Paulo, Brazil in the years 2013-2014. I created a third place which is mixture of the two locations. In this place there are pictures of my relatives, who were photographed in the first location- my parents, grandparents, uncles. All are deceased. I too am in that imaginary space as baby and child. I was born in Georgia, left as a child and never went back. The family albums have always been with me in my movings, but were rarely opened. Currently I live in São Paulo, already for 11 years. I wanted to be closer to my relatives by physically colocating them in the places where I usually go, where my kids go and that I photographed. I wanted to be as a child in places I registered by my camera where my youngest daughter born in São Paulo, was. The expanded "here and now" became a space consisting of memory and imagination, populated by people from my childhood and by me as a child. The constructed reality in this imaginary space can have the same dedication that Agamben mentions in "The JudgmentDay ": Might Have Been ... No More, Too Late, Farewell. My children do not know their grandparents, great grandparents, great-uncles even by name. Many photographs are in poor condition. Looking at them I felt a "demand for redemption" (Agamben expression). Photographing old photos and putting the relatives in the new place gave me the feeling that they started a new life, gave me a new memory, a new testimony.
