These photos were taken at a very pivotal time, just before the Digital Age fell on us all and changed the world forever. Whenever possible I asked permission before taking these photos. I either spoke with my subject if I was working in close or pointed at my camera and then at them if I was using a longer lens. I don't remember ever being told no. Times have changed and people, especially in cities, are far more guarded now and I am as well.
