In 1979 I spent a year driving around North America on a motorcycle.
People would often ask me how I dealt with the loneliness as if it were a fatal disease.
Truth is, the only place I have ever felt lonely was while living in a city.
What attracted me to these images initially were some of the first night images I shot which spoke, and speak, to me about the loneliness and isolation of urban living.
As I continued shooting windows and facades the project took on a life of its' own and I started to see how family and community help people cope with the pressures of living in a city.
