Binary code has been something that I have been utilizing as a vehicle to represent the growing schism between what our culture now perceives to be a normal speed of communication vs. the course and speed of communication before the digital revolution. Language is transformed into binary code, which is sent through a computer and comes out at the other end, hopefully, as sent. However, mathematical information theory suggests that there's a certain probability that the code will mutate and arrive changed. We are unable to know if this occurs, as we are unable to decode the underlying binary language that we now invisibly communicate with. Code Words is a series of photographic installations based upon performances of binary code’s destruction, mutations, and translation into visual forms.
