The Studio: Reflections on Learning to Draw

Pictures from the Studio: Reflections on Learning to Draw I teach in rooms like those in my photographs, rooms where students learn how to draw. I was once a student in a drawing class… My father was an artist and a teacher, and I have memories of visiting studios and classrooms at an early age, fostering an affinity for the space, the light, the furniture, and the models staging silent dramas in these rooms… We are given the privilege to “look” and the model demands our attention: unclothed, simultaneously beautiful and awkward, reminiscent of moments in a drawing class… Luke Jordan/2022
