La Elipa ́s market opened its doors at during the early 70s. With more than one hundred shops, it became as the commercial heart of the neighbourhood.
New trends in groceries consumption raised derived from the financial crisis and chain supermarkets proliferation. Together with the negation of a government ́s financial support, these traditional markets began to disappear in our cities.
In 2009, a little more than a dozen stalls survived the crisis. While some continued opening the market for long working days to serve an increasingly scarce loyal clientele, others took early retirement or opened their shops somewhere else. In 2019 there were only 7 stalls that remained reunited on the ground floor of the building. They became the » last survivors» before the final court decision of total closure of the La Elipa Market.
This project firstly took place in 2009. In 2019 I returned to portray the workers who remained 10 years later.
