As a child, I always had a fascination for abandoned houses in the countryside near my hometown in Calabria (Italy). Since then, I have spent my life photographing old buildings, showing them in their present form - often neglected and forgotten but with a story to tell. The subjects of these photographs range from private homes, factories, hospitals and anything in between. The inspiration for this comes from the same questions I have been asking myself since I was a little boy -
“Who lived/worked there?"
"Why did they leave?"
"Why was the building abandoned?"
"Why did they never come back?”
My work aims to bring these often remarkable works of architecture, which once played an important role in our society and local economy, back to life before they will sink into oblivion forever and take with them a piece of local heritage which can never be replaced.
