My ancestors originated in Korea. They left Korea during a 60 year period of instability caused largely by foreign powers. At the time a movement amongst Korean people known as Korean Nationalism which sought to maintain Korean culture, identity, history, and ethnicity led to significant differences between North and South. Today there is increasing tension in North Korea despite agreement between North and South to work towards peaceful unification in 2000. Foreign powers continue to interfere in Korean affairs. Korean Nationalism is likely play an important role in any possible future unification process. A key part of Korean Nationalism is the Korean Traditional Dress which is characterised by vibrant colours and simple lines. In my photography I want to celebrate Korean Nationalism using Traditional Dress with some emotions relevant to North Korea in particular and thereby register my hope for a Korean peaceful and prosperous future.
