Coastlines intrigue me. The edges of where our lands meet the sea are special. My first big photobook project is about the Essex coastline, 400 miles of it, in the east of England. It is enormously varied and disparate, with huge contracts in landscape and man's involvement and impact upon it. Curious, I started walking the Essex coast in 2016, and as I took photographs, I became very aware of the shapes and textures, the forms and patterns, the geometry that all appeared before me. My aim: I want to make people think, reconsider and reassess their preconceptions and presumptions about an undervalued English county.
