We are often shown the tragic side of the Refugee situation as well as the internal conflict in the host nations. “New Americans” is a success story about a Burmese refugee family resettled in Clarkston, Georgia, USA four years ago.
I believe that showing how refugees can assimilate and contribute to their host country is critical, now more than ever.
While this family’s transition has been far from easy they are making it happen. Between them, the mom and dad are working multiple jobs. All of the children attend school and are flourishing. While still very impoverished they are very hardworking, grateful and making great strides. They are pursuing the American Dream. One in which they can practice their religion, have their children receive an education and attend college, and purchase a house in the foreseeable future.
This is a true and intimate success story, one that I firmly believe we need to show.
