Mélaina Cholé is a metaphorical project on the origins of the word depression.
According to Hippocrates and subsequent tradition, melancholia was caused by an excess of black bile, hence the name, which means "black bile", from Ancient Greek μέλας (melas), "dark, black", and χολή (kholé), "bile"; a person whose constitution tended to have a preponderance of black bile had a melancholic disposition.
For Melancholy generally means a state of constant discouragement and impotence mood , ranging from simple melancholy and unfriendly feeling to even severe depression.
Today depression is a very common disease, so much so that the world health organization has estimated that by 2020 will be the most common mental illness in the world. In my country of birth, Italy, sales of antidepressants increased by 377% in the last fifteen years.
I myself have suffered from depression in the past.
