This particular year has brought on even more uncertainty for all of us. It is a time to ask questions with photography and not just to give answers. I want to ask subtle questions with this new body of work. The items and scenes are displaced and items that seem familiar become unfamiliar, unexplainable, extraordinary or supernatural.
Playing with a sense of scale and time, reflections and overlaying images reveals shifts between blur, time and detail are common practice for me. Artificial colors and gradients also work to mimic nature, but leave a sense of the supernatural.
In conclusion, this work continues with larger themes of ambivalence that have always appeared in my work. A lot of my work has been about these in-between: the grotesque versus the beautiful, consumption versus preservation, the real versus the imagined.
