Nude photography is not what I usually photograph. Over the last couple of decades, I have been working on mainly documentary style photography. Recently, I have been looking at some nude artwork of several different artists and I have endeavoured to try it for myself. Nude photography is definitely out of my comfort zone. When I shoot street or documentary photography, the story or theme of interest is there to see and I just have to be there, to recognise the moment, compose it and then photograph it. With Nude photography I need to create the story or the point of interest myself. My vision is not to photograph just an aesthetically pleasing work, but rather to distance my photographs from the usual nudes in mainstream publications. I wish to try and create a somewhat idiosyncratic feeling to the images. At times I just shoot a nude portrait, and It is important to me that the images are not of a model posing as a ‘glamorous’ nude but rather a natural pose within the chosen setting. I would rather capture the image with a natural feel at the time and in an environment or location that is unique. In most times the model is only a part of the image and the background and the environment around the model makes the picture complete.
